ASTOP is a locally based organization devoted to protecting endangered sea turtles. Help us protect a vital part of the Parismina village ecology from the harmful effects of local poachers (who steal turtle eggs, and in some cases kill the turtles). We are located minutes (by boat) from Cano Blanco, the “jumping off point” for visitors & tourists to Tortuguero National Park in Costa Rica.
We have two nesting beaches on Parismina: the North beach & the South beach. Currently we only have the funding to patrol and protect the South beach, while the North beach is almost 100% poached. Come help us protect the North beach - a vital nesting area for endangered Leatherback, Loggerhead and Green Turtles.
ASTOP’s efforts are funded by tourists and volunteers who come to the island to see this project and help. They collect a small tax on home and hotel stays ($3) and guide fees for turtle patrols ($10).
